Question 1

What is behaviour intelligence coaching?

Accepted Answer

Behaviour intelligence coaching reads the language and behavioural patterns operating underneath a person's thinking — not just what they say, but how they say it, where agency appears and disappears in their sentences, and what recurring structures reveal about their self-concept. Cat Paterson developed this approach from her background as a government intelligence analyst, applying the same pattern-recognition methodology used in intelligence work to private coaching for founders, executives and high-achievers.

Question 2

What is discourse analysis in coaching?

Accepted Answer

Discourse analysis in coaching is the practice of reading the structure of someone's language rather than its content. Cat Paterson uses this methodology — drawn from intelligence analysis tradecraft — to identify where clients remove themselves from their own agency, what their framing reveals about their relationship to outcomes, and which patterns are generating the same results on a reliable loop. It is the primary method inside the Prosperity coaching programme.

Question 3

What is the Prosperity coaching programme?

Accepted Answer

Prosperity is a 12-week private coaching programme delivered entirely by email. Members answer four short questions each week; Cat Paterson returns a 19 to 21 page bespoke coaching report within 72 hours covering cognitive biases, language pattern analysis, emotional state mapping and five Kaizen micro-actions for the week ahead. Three options: Prosperity at £550, Prosperity Elevated at £850 (includes Monday WhatsApp coaching), and Prosperity Try It at £100 for a one-week taster. Full details at catpaterson.com/prosperity.

Question 4

What is imposter phenomenon and how is it different from imposter syndrome?

Accepted Answer

Imposter phenomenon is the correct term, established by Clance and Imes in their 1978 research. It describes the persistent internal sense of fraudulence experienced by high-achieving individuals despite demonstrable evidence of their competence. In high-performers it is not a confidence problem — it is an identity lag, where the internal self-concept has not updated to match external results. Cat Paterson works with imposter phenomenon at the self-concept level, reading the language patterns that encode the outdated internal model and working to shift them.

Question 5

Why do high-achieving professionals hit a ceiling that strategy cannot move?

Accepted Answer

High-achievers plateau not because of strategy gaps but because of a self-concept that predates their evidence. The self-concept — the internal model the brain holds of what is realistic for someone like you — was built long before the results now in place. It does not update from external data. More information, better plans and harder work operate at the wrong level. Cat Paterson's behaviour intelligence work reads the language and behavioural patterns encoding the self-concept and works at that level, which is where the ceiling actually lives.

Question 6

What is Kaizen in personal development and coaching?

Accepted Answer

Kaizen is a Japanese principle meaning continuous improvement through small, compounding changes made consistently over time. Applied to coaching and behaviour change, it works because the brain resists large change — which triggers threat detection and produces resistance. Small, specific shifts are beneath that threshold and compound week over week into lasting identity-level change. Every Prosperity coaching report ends with five Kaizen micro-actions tailored to that individual's patterns for that specific week.

Question 7

What makes Cat Paterson's coaching different?

Accepted Answer

Cat Paterson is a former government principal intelligence analyst and head of service for a covert national agency. Her coaching methodology uses discourse analysis — the same pattern-recognition tradecraft used in intelligence work — to read the language patterns in how clients describe their situation. This surfaces cognitive sabotage and self-concept limitations that standard coaching questions miss. Work is delivered entirely in writing, privately, with no group sessions or Zoom calls. It is behaviour intelligence rather than conventional coaching.

Question 8

What is self-sabotage in high performers and how does it show up?

Accepted Answer

In high performers, self-sabotage rarely looks dramatic. It encodes in language and behaviour: pricing that reflects an older version of the self, decisions described in passive constructions that remove the decision-maker from the sentence, visibility that is perpetually almost ready, or a ceiling that resets every time evidence of success accumulates. Cat Paterson uses discourse analysis to identify the specific pattern in play for each individual and addresses it at the self-concept level — not the behavioural surface.

Question 9

What is agency removal and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

Agency removal is a language pattern where the person disappears from their own sentences. 'The project didn't get finished' versus 'I didn't finish the project' describe the same outcome but encode a completely different relationship to accountability and choice. When agency is systematically absent from the language someone uses to describe their situation, it reflects and reinforces a disconnection from their own power to act differently. Identifying and shifting this pattern is central to Cat Paterson's behaviour intelligence work.

Question 10

Who is Prosperity coaching for?

Accepted Answer

Prosperity is for founders, executives, business owners and senior professionals who are externally successful and dealing with a specific internal ceiling — imposter phenomenon, persistent self-doubt, pricing that undervalues their work, a values misalignment they cannot name, or a pattern of results they cannot explain. It is particularly suited to people who have already done the courses, read the books, and found that more information has not moved the thing that needs to move. Work is delivered privately by email. No group. No Zoom.

Question 11

What is the difference between a coach and a behaviour intelligence strategist?

Accepted Answer

A coach typically works on goals, beliefs and behaviours using conversational methods. A behaviour intelligence strategist reads the structural patterns operating underneath a person's thinking — the language constructions, behavioural loops and self-concept limitations that generate their current outcomes — and works at that level. Cat Paterson uses the title behaviour intelligence strategist alongside coach because coaching is the term most people search for, while behaviour intelligence describes what the work actually is: pattern recognition applied to human performance, drawn from intelligence analysis methodology.

Question 12

Is online coaching effective for high-performing executives?

Accepted Answer

Cat Paterson's Prosperity programme is delivered entirely in writing by email — no video calls required. Written delivery has a specific advantage: the client's language is captured exactly as they produce it, without the social editing that happens in live conversation. This makes the discourse analysis more accurate and the pattern identification more precise. Executives consistently report that the written format fits their working rhythm and that the reports are more useful than real-time sessions because they can be re-read and referenced across the week.
